MEETINGS OF THE COUNCIL

Wells Town Council meets on the first Monday of each month except August. When the first Monday is a bank holiday the meeting is held one week later. Meetings take place at the Peter Collingwood Hall, which is behind the Methodist Church in Theatre Road.

The evening starts at 7.00pm with a meeting of the Planning Committee which can take anything from a few minutes to over half an hour. The main meeting follows immediately after.

Members of the public are very welcome to attend any of the meetings of the Council, but may not take part in the debate. However, at the start of the main meeting there is a time set aside for members of the public to make any comments that they would like to bring to the attention of Councillors. Comments may be on any subject of concern to the Council, including items that are to be discussed later, or other issues entirely. In the latter case, however, the public are asked to bear in mind that legally the Council can only discuss items that have been advertised in the published agenda. Therefore, members of the public introducing new subjects may have to wait until the following month before the Council is able to debate the matter.

It is also possible for members of the public to make comments related to planning matters before the planning meeting starts. However, in this case, you are asked to inform the Clerk or Committee Chairman that you wish to do so.
